Golden Retriever

Chribas Coconut 6 weeks

My ”dog-life” started in 1974, when I had my first Golden retriever, KARGUL DAMON (CH Gyrima Damocles – Camrose Evensky), bred by Kari Gulbrandsen. He was the perfect dog for a beginner – gentle, social and active as a Golden retriever should be. Due to a ”puppy face” he was not a show-star, but he achieved many ResCC’s, and was placed as BOB-veteran on several occasions. He also achieved a prize in Class II at  Obedience Trials.

Retrieve!

NORW & FINNISH CH ASTOWN’S CADET was born in 1978. He was bred by Thora and Asbjørn Tårneby and owned by Thora Tårneby and myself. He won many BOB’s,  BEST IN SHOW at Open Shows , and his best result was winning the Gundog Group and going BIS-4 at an all breed Kennel Club show. He also won a prize at a Blood Tracking Trial. He sired a few litters of puppies – and is in the pedigrees of several dogs bred at the Hedetorpet and Poetry’s kennels in Sweden.

NORW CH CHRIBAS COCONUT  , born 1981, was a daughter of Cadet’s sister Christy, and bred by Berit and Tore Bondal. Coconut was BIS Puppy at the Norwegian Retriever Club Show under Thelma Theed. She became a Norwegian Champion and her best result was winning BOS with a CACIB.

 N U CH Chribas Coconut

Coconut was in 1984 mated to NORW CH Mjærumhøgdas Crusader, which resulted in 4 puppies; two dogs and two bitches.

My affix is DAMDYKE – which came from ”Demdyke”, the name of a road in the British TV-series ”Emmerdale Farm”, which was popular here at that time. The e was changed to an a – so the name would be more similar to Damon.

The puppies achieved the following results:

Do’nut, ”Delta”, was owned by Berit and Tore Bondal of the Chribas kennel. She rapidly became a champion, and her best result was going BOB at the  Nordic Winner show i Oslo in 1987 under Vivien Jones, in an entry of 167 Goldens.

Dandini, ”Dennis”, was owned by Hege K. Friis. He also quickly gained his title. Unfortunately he was sterile from early age, and therefore has no descendants.

DAMDYKE DEWDROP     1 CC
Dewdrop, ”Sheeba”, was owned by Inger and Terje Andersson of the Dewdrop kennel. In her  only litter she produced, amongst others, NORW CH Dewdrop A Better Choice, and two ResCC-winners. She also won 1 CC herself. Through her son D. A Better Choice she is in the pedigrees of many of today’s winning Goldens.

DAMDYKE DROBELAAR  2 CC's
Drobelaar, ”Dino”, was also owned of the Dewdrop kennel.  He won 2 CC’s and several ResCC’s during his show carreer – and was very close to gaining his title. He was sparingly used at stud.

End of the chapter about Golden retrievers.....

Border Terrier

After a few years withour any dogs, we wanted ”a large dog in a  small package” – a dog that would enjoy boating life during summer and that could come along ”everywhere”. We finally decided to get a Border terrier. I had seen the breed at shows in England, and had been very fascinated by Anne Tove Strande and Edith Strande Jørgensen’s GB NORW SWED CH Dandyhow Scotsman, when I saw him in the eightees here in Norway. I came in contact with Tuija and Seppo Saari oF the famous Foxforest kennel in Finland. I very much liked their type of dogs as well as their dogs' versatility – being active at shows, working trials, agility and other activities. After a year’s waiting we could collect the male Foxforest Flying Colours, aka ”Jojo” – a descendant of Dandyhow Scotsman.
